Tehran - Rooted in the land, natural resources, and ecosystems that sustain their communities, indigenous knowledge is forged through generations of lived experience and preserved through oral tradition. It is humanity's oldest continuous body of knowledge, and remains as relevant today as ever.

This year's observance turns a spotlight on indigenous food systems—time-honoured practices that continue to feed millions, protect biodiversity, and offer proven pathways toward a more resilient and sustainable future.

On 9 August, the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we celebrate the profound and lasting contributions of indigenous communities around the world.

Their wisdom, grounded in respect for nature and stewardship of the earth, holds lessons that the global community can ill afford to ignore in the face of mounting environmental and food-security challenges.
